Clothes Shopping
Captain E has never been the most stylish person. His clothes have always been pretty old and nondescript. It’s not like he’s going out there looking like a bum, but he is someone who doesn’t think much about his clothing; just puts it on and proceeds to more important matters of the day. Shorts and sandals regardless of the situation…that same t-shirt with the image of Taiwan on it…that same blue-gray jacket…you can imagine. So, he did surprise me tonight when he said he bought five shirts. There’s some apprehension about seeing the shirts. And five shirts do not an outfit make…there’s much more he must coordinate to cultivate that confidence and assuredness that comes with knowing you looking fucking good, bitch! I just wondered if MK3 had any say in the clothes he bought.
Back before Lauren and I were together we went clothes-shopping for me. I was trying to dress better for my new job at the junior high, so we went to the Macy’s men’s store in San Francisco. Positivity and confidence were both important in her real life job so she knew the value of looking nice to onesself and to others. We picked out some NICE, SILKY, COLLARED shirts…maroon, black with blue striping and white with brown striping and headed to the 4th floor to look at pants. Upstairs, the clerk became comically perturbed because I didn’t really know my size and was willing to purchase pants that were not perfect fits. She coupled my fashion ineptitude with the erroneous assumption that Lauren was my girlfriend and, thus, complicit in my ignorance. I remember the clerk chastising Lauren, saying “And you…you’re no help”. I’m glad that made Lauren laugh because I was certainly chuckling while sneaking a pair of clearance rack Dockers onto the table. It was all good, though, because those clothes are still the best ones I own (until last week, when I returned to Macy’s and bought more of the same for my trip). Anyway, the shirts are a start, but it’s time for MK3 (while she has the momentum) to put her foot down and take him on a date to the mall. And shopping is the best date because everyone comes away with something nice.
