Millennium Jungle Aftermath Habitat
I know it’s hella old, but in “Forgot About Dre”, Dr. Dre raps: “I ain’t havin’ that/This is the millennium of aftermath/There ain’t gonna be nothin’ after that/So gimme one more platinum plaque and/Fuck rap, you can have it back”. This is the millennium of aftermath — that’s my favorite line. I don’t know what the hell that’s supposed to mean but it sounds as if some important shit is about to go down. It’s the way I feel about this April starting up. It’s the beginning of the end for my work at the junior high (and, if I am aggressive and play my cards right, my 7-12 teaching career?) and the start of an assortment of social and personal issues that I’ve gotta tackle. I can see into the crystal ball that it’s gonna be an eventful and direction-shifting summer…but it’s gotta be set up during the spring. It’s cool, because I got my massage and I’m ready to bust through the season and do everything that I want/need to do. “So where’s all the mad rappers at/It’s like a jungle in this habitat/But all you savage cats know that/I was strapped with gats/While you were cuddling the Cabbage Patch”. It’s like a jungle in this habitat — my second-favorite line…just because it doesn’t make sense doesn’t mean it’s not totally awesome.
