Spring Respite

Holy shit, this week has been a strange one. Kids going nuts, a ton of grading, a whirlwind of basketball coaching to finish the season, staying awake trying to get people to hear the GSW rap and an extremely awkward female episode — I guess I squandered an opportunity but I just thought it was a bad time…you know, in the living room with two other people only a few steps away. So, Spring Break truly comes at an opportune time. I have resolutions for the week: to resume daily jogging, to blog every day, to clean my bedroom and my classroom and to get my lessons in order but, more importantly, I just need to relax. I have this idea of taking the Greyhound down to Pismo Beach, or at least to Santa Cruz. It’s not so important that it be a solo trip, but I just want it free from obligation of any sort. Las Vegas is still a consideration. The most relaxed I can remember feeling in the past couple of years was when I visited Vegas with Special K and got a massage (my first!) at the spa at Monte Carlo. It might be expensive considering the obligatory ticket, room, food, show and blackjack, but hey, I pay $0 rent! And, yes, I’m silently weeping inside.

Anyway, wherever I end up traveling to, it will be worth the ride/flight and cash, because things are just becoming more energized and frantic.  I guess spring really is here.

  1. I vote for something close-to-home, but near water (beach or lake).
When I lived in Mississippi I would run at night along the boardwalk by the ocean. It was probably not the smartest move, but luckily nothing ever happened to me, and it was so awesome to run in the twilight with the sound of the water. What if you stayed someplace that had massages, then you could wake up in the morning and run on the beach?
