I’m With You All The Way

Placeholder Post #2

It took me a good deal of time to get used to talking on my cell phone in public. Check that…I’m still not used to it. The thing is on vibrate 90% on the time even though I can barely hear it when it does ring. Plus, I always ease it out of my pocket surreptitiously and conceal the light blooming from its screen when I check messages. Now people have the headsets and they used to have the little wire dangling from their ears, but I still have difficulty just talking into the phone around other people. The same phenomenon is happening with laptops nowadays. This blogger post is being typed on a laptop in a cafe, but only because I’m tucked away in a corner so that I can see everyone approaching. I could be looking at porn right now but, of course, I’m not. I may or may not look later. But in the airport and in the S.F. cafe and all over Seattle and in Happy Donut it’s laptop and Wi-Fi and battery pack and Macbook and headphones and external mouse and “excuse me, could I share this outlet?” And the people are young and old, looking at spreadsheets and typing emails and watching movies and playing World of Warcraft and here I am, self-conscious about even carrying the laptop case with me as if I’ll appear better than everyone else. I actually bought a notepad and paper from Walgreens so that I could write down my thoughts for this blog. So, what I’m saying, it’s time to get past my laptop shame.

Holy shit, what language is this kid speaking? Is that Russian?!

Carmex is my longtime choice in lip balm (love that carnauba wax!) and the selection had been solidified once they released the stick in addition to the screw-top jar. Carmex got even better once they released the same product in mint, cherry and strawberry flavors. The mint one is especially great. However, the Blistex Jarritos Mandarina and Fruit Smoothies provide some tough competition.

  1. It’s always the smallest things that are so significant.

The reality of using your laptop in public, your phone, the thought and preparation that it takes for you to be able to do those things.
And the satisfaction you feel in finding that carmex works for you, that you like relying on that.

I think it’s a way of enjoying who you are in the world. It’s the details that show who you are, your nature.
