On Your Mark
This afternoon I signed the papers to become an official employee of the Fremont schools. To “celebrate”, I splurged for a fancy car wash for my 1992 Mazda MX-6. To be honest, I thought it was your run-of-the-mill drive-thru, but I ended up paying $15, getting out of the car and waiting while 5 or 6 workers wiped and washed and sprayed and dusted and dried inside and outside the car. It was the most thorough car wash the Mazda has probably ever had and it looks as good as it has in a long time given it’s needed a new paint job forever. I was laughing to myself as I waited because the others cars were nice Bimmers, SUVs and a slammed Impala…all without sun damage.
Sometime this week I will write out specific goals (as well as a few weeks worth of lessons) but my primary goal for work this year is to do better than I did last year. That means more communication with parents, fewer days where I decide to just wing it, better continuity between lessons and an assortment of other things. I’m still a young teacher, but my grace period is certainly over by now. The K-12 system is a long chain where each teacher (actually every staffer and parent and student) needs to hold it steady through each grade. So, I want to personally kick ass this year and I want my students to be totally set for high school.
