I’m With You All The Way

Basketball Jones

Sebnem Kimyacioglu, where are you??

I found your website and it says it was updated in 2007 but, otherwise, I can’t read it!  How is your team doing?  What are your personal statistics…if you know what I mean?  Is Like A Prayer really an appropriate song selection for a professional basketball player?  Might I suggest She’s a Bad Mamma Jamma instead?  Or perhaps that’s simply the music that plays in my head whenever I imagine you slashing, dishing and shooting that jimmyjack from long range.  Although, I must admit that since I haven’t seen you play in several years I’ve forgotten the strengths of your game.  But, you’re a professional…no doubt your game has evolved to meet and surpass that of your improved competition.  Yet, regardless of how dominant you’ve become and how little you probably need it you can always count on an assist from WhatUpThen.

  1. I am Seb’s father and we still live in the Bay Area.

Seb is now playing for Galatasaray in Istanbul together with
Sophia Young, Vickie Johnson and Chantelle Anderson, all from
San Antonio Silver Spurs. Galatasaray plays in Turkish Professional League (TBBL) as well as the Eurocup. In both leagues they are one of the leading teams. Seb plays internationally for Turkey as well. She is considered to be the best outside shooter in TBBL.

This year another ex-Stanford player, Kristin Newlin is playing in Turkey for Botas. She is the current league leader in rebounding. In the past years Nicole Powell, Cori Enghusen (naturalized as a fellow Turk and playing for Turkish National Team), Enjoli Izidor, Bethany Donaphin and Olypia Scott competed for Turkish Teams.

Seb’s mission is to be a role model on and off the court with sportmanship and work ethics, and she has been doing quite well. She intends to come back to US after a year or two and continue her graduate studies and build her career as an economist.

Thanks for raising the question and Happy New Year to all.

  2. First, sir, I am very excited to receive this comment. Thank you so much!

Also, thanks for the update about “Seb”. It’s nice to know that she’s having success playing professionally and I hadn’t realized that so many other players had made their way to Turkey. I mean, Nicole Powell? Vickie Johnson?? Those are big names in basketball! Is the TBBL the premier league outside of the WNBA? And do some players participate in both leagues?

I read about you coaching your daughters when they were young and attending their games at different sites. It’s incredible that they both turned out to be fantastic players; what a testament to hard work! My first coaching experience begins this month for 7th and 8th grade girls. I just hope to teach them some fundamental skills and to create appreciation and a desire to continue playing the game.

In any event, Happy New Year to you. And I wish continued success for the sisters!
