Happy Donut Lament
It’s been some time since I was last at Happy Donut. Tonight I forgot my iPod so I’m writing this while trying to figure out what language this teenage girl could possibly be speaking. There are a couple of guys playing chess down the table from me. Does playing chess make a person smarter? It takes a world of focus and strategy and logic and patience, but does it enrich the player more than say…reading a book? Reading a book increases one’s language skills, entertains and provides knowledge directly applicable to real life. Playing basketball is exercise and helps build interpersonal relationships. Chess is just chess (a model of decorum and tranquility). Then again, I’m pretty sure I’ve never won a game.
Realizing something…normally I come here because I want to wind down but tonight I came just to kill time; or for lack of anything better. Tonight it’s not fulfilling, just a long drive and some unnecessary food. What am I doing here?? I hate nights like this. Maybe that’s why I’m assaulting the chess players. There’s nothing wring with them; I’m just lost right now…could use some good company.

Hey Chris! Long time no see. Great to catch up on what you are up to with the blog…..
Thought you might like to hear this random fodder for your blog. It sounds like something that you might actually like to post. Let me know….
News of the Weird
There have recently been increasing reports of a strange phenomenon occurring within the sexual practices of Japanese couples. Japanese women complain that their partners prefer—and even insist upon—reading the newspaper during sexual intercourse. While the Japanese culture has long been known for its unusual sexual customs, this strikes many as particularly bizarre. More and more women have quietly come forward (often anonymously) to protest their loss of intimacy and voice their private shame. Is it a desperate attempt to bring efficiency and multitasking into the bedroom? Or is it a strange effort to integrate all segments of the highly-compartmentalized Japanese worker? It is hard to say, as news of this practice has only begun to surface.
