Horrible.

At first I wasn’t going to post about Kenneth Eng and the ignorant, bigoted and fucking stupid column he wrote for AsianWeek last week entitled, “Why I Hate Blacks”. There are a million articles smashing it already and outcry has spread between me and my friends and through email channels. But I figured there were probably still some people who hadn’t gotten wind of the story and that it was really important that they do so.

First, there’s the column printed below…I warn you now because it’s sickening. The title describes just what Kenneth Eng has written. It’s a list of reasons “why we should discriminate against blacks” or generalizations that he has made. It’s not a satire or a joke of any kind. Eng uses his obviously limited experiences to justify the hatred of an entire race of people. The column is full of absolutes and blanket statements, along with estimations and questionable claims. It is compelling only in that one wonders how a person could be so stupid. I hate to get regional, but to consider a presumably semi-enlightened person living in the Bay Area and writing for an independent newspaper…I just imagine that person to be more than a total dumbshit. Evidently, I am mistaken. Eng labels all Black people as racist, weak-willed, easily coerced, dishonest and dumb. He has similarly trashy pieces, which can be found online, that slam Whites and Asians, I suppose in his effort to make some edgy commentary on race. I hope Kenneth Eng’s destructive words come back to haunt him because I think he’s too far gone to ever genuinely change his point of view.

More worrisome, however, is that AsianWeek published and printed his article. That issue was available on newsstands and online through last weekend. I just can’t think of any scenario in which publishing that column would be acceptable; not for publicity, not for the sake of debate, not out of earnestness. And I think it’s beyond sloppy editing. I think Eng’s views are at least partially shared by the editorial staff and that perhaps they grossly underestimated the intelligence of their primarily Asian audience. I think AsianWeek believed they would find praise for the column but, thankfully, they’ve been met with anger.  It’s upsetting that this happened because AsianWeek is local but it is still an influential publication (hell, even I’ve picked it up a few times).  Just a reminder, I suppose, that racism and hatred are still out there and will be as long as we live.

Why I Hate Blacks

Here is a list of reasons why we should discriminate against blacks, starting from the most obvious down to the least obvious:

• Blacks hate us. Every Asian who has ever come across them knows that they take almost every opportunity to hurl racist remarks at us.

In my experience, I would say about 90 percent of blacks I have met, regardless of age or environment, poke fun at the very sight of an Asian. Furthermore, their activity in the media proves their hatred: Rush Hour, Exit Wounds, Hot 97, etc.

• Contrary to media depictions, I would argue that blacks are weak-willed. They are the only race that has been enslaved for 300 years. It’s unbelievable that it took them that long to fight back.

On the other hand, we slaughtered the Russians in the Japanese-Russo War.

• Blacks are easy to coerce. This is proven by the fact that so many of them, including Reverend Al Sharpton, tend to be Christians.

Yet, at the same time, they spend much of their time whining about how much they hate “the whites that oppressed them.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Christianity the religion that the whites forced upon them?

• Blacks don’t get it. I know it’s a blunt and crass comment, but it’s true. When I was in high school, I recall a class debate in which one half of the class was chosen to defend black slavery and the other half was chosen to defend liberation.

Disturbingly, blacks on the prior side viciously defended slavery as well as Christianity. They say if you don’t study history, you’re condemned to repeat it.

In high school, I only remember one black student ever attending any of my honors and AP courses. And that student was caught cheating.

It is rather troubling that they are treated as heroes, but then again, whites will do anything to defend them.

Just head-shaking.  What more can be said?
