Reunion Party
If you are someone who visits this page regularly, I apologize for the weeklong absence. It’s not that things haven’t happened; it’s just that blogger rut that we can sometimes find ourselves trapped in. Ideas have been dancing around in my head all week and it’s so easy to jump onto the computer and write a paragraph, but it’s just a little easier to find something else to do. To my credit, I did manage to sort out more of those uncategorized posts from the Ice Climber archive…only 50 more to go! I also took a look back at the old Ice Climber page and found some links that I had forgotten about. Overheard in New York is good for a chuckle and the Wonda page I surprisingly special, I think. No one could possibly have as much time on his/her hands as that woman, but sometimes the links are entertaining and her party pictures make me green with envy.
It’s okay, though, because I went to a coupla parties myself this weekend for the fifth college reunion. Reunions bring anticipation, eagerness and dread seemingly all at once. Make eye contact with people you’ve seen but can’t quite identify and brush each other off with a nod and swing in another direction. Run into old “friends” that haven’t crossed your mind in 5+ years, tell your rehearsed story and listen to theirs, then try to find the least awkward way to end the conversation and move on to the next person. There were three bright points, however. First, it’s always good to see the crew I do care about. Lots of real friends came in and the time/dinner/hanging out was good. Second, the official class party had a full bar! I can’t remember ever going to an event with free liquor! Well, it was $30 to get in, but I covered that with drinks within 90 minutes. Last, I got to talk to Lisa for the first time in months, and she has been nothing but sunshine to me since 1997. So, hey, that made the weekend worth it. Can’t wait ’til 10th reunion in 2011!
