SeaTac Trip
I’m making this determination from a sample size of just one but, from my experience in the SeaTac this weekend, the Thursday to Saturday vacation is the best way to un-motherfucking-wind.
Doing my best Naomi impression, I told a few people I was coming and then I jetted up to Seattle on the $150 flight. No real plan, no real idea who or what would await beyond Master P and his cats, but I had to do it. With Hawaii postponed indefinitely and the demands of teaching 90 high school students looming around the corner, the reward of returning to Seattle after a year was worth the risk.
And it turned out to be just what I needed.
A few things made the trip great, including immersing myself in the area. I reacquainted myself with public transportation (for better or for worse) and dove into Downtown, the U-District and the other neighborhoods. I wasted little time zeroing in on my favorite SeaTac foods. The #9 Gyro Platter from Aladdin for lunch, 2 Alaskan Ambers and fish & chips from Ivar’s for dinner. Considering how I normally waste $150, that made the trip worthwhile already.
But the cream was to see people who are very dear to me and to leave with our friendships reaffirmed and experiences to remember. It all starts with Jef, my former boss and the most intelligent person I know. (Interject: I’m sitting in the cafe as I write this and they’re playing an orchestral rendition of “Arthur’s Theme” through the joint. Fuck yeah!!) Then Jamil, a little older but still The Revolution. Master P, with whom I simultaneously perform introspection. Last, there’s Kristian. She can’t have Special K because it’s claimed for someone else, but she deserves something better anyhow. The Mexican Flyer because she’s everywhere? Or maybe the Rumbling Rose because she’s so beautiful and so powerful. I do believe that nothing will stop her from achieving her dreams and I will remember this weekend for how she entered my inner circle of friends.
