Repeat the Message

I talked to my Mom today (heh…as if I don’t talk to her every day) and she was talking about the war on terror.  It was something like: “Okay, so we’re gonna kill all these soldiers…or, terrorists, I mean.  We’re gonna destroy all of Al Qaeda as if they’ll never be able to reorganize.  And then we’re going to destroy every other terrorist group until there are no more terrorists on the face of the planet.  Isn’t that like, ’til infinity??”  She’s right, you know?  One of the most disturbing parts of this war is the endlessness of it.  Its continuation can always be justified because the reasons for fighting are so vague; the “terrorist threat” will never really be eradicated.  I mean, people have been discussing the inanity of the war for years now, so my Mom wasn’t saying anything new.  But if the term for the fighting is neverending, then the antiwar message will still bear repeating, no matter how tiresome it becomes to say.  The same goes for the antiracist message, the gender equality message and gay rights message.  Say it as long as it needs to be said.
