LAN you dig it?
What is the difference between an artist and an artisan? It seems like the words are interchangeable, but one is infinitely more pretentious than the other so its use immediately conveys some information about the speaker…and it’s not good.
So, I went to a LAN party on SATURDAY NIGHT! SATURDAY NIGHT LAN PARTY. There, I said it. I’m screaming it from the top of the hill. I swear it was my first time ever. Don’t you judge me!!
I really did disassemble my desktop, pack it in the car and drive it over to San Leandro to set it all up again and play Warcraft III mods with a bunch of like-minded geeks. There were eight others. I only remember the names of Andy because he invited me, Scott because we went to high school together and Fumiko because…she knew Japanese. Seriously, a woman at a LAN party? I’ve heard of the girl gamer on the Internet, you know, but I never thought that day would arrive when I’d verify with my fairy eyes. Anyway, it soon became clear that her ass had played a lot more Warcraft III than I had, but luckily, that wasn’t the case for everyone. Although my team lost all three games of Defense of the Ancients, I led the way in kills in each game. Generally, the other players couldn’t handle my Frost Nova. After getting the Boots of Speed and Gloves of Haste for the early advantage, I purchased a Robe of the Magi from the Goblin Peddler and the Blades of Alacrity helped push my mana regeneration and damage over the top. Oh my god, what the fuck am I saying?! No, no…it’s alright. I’m 25, I went to a LAN party with a bunch of 24-28 year olds on a Saturday night and, hell, I’d do it again!
